Artist Statement

Elizabeth Boutin

My experiences as a military spouse, and the passion for the outdoors, are the visual aspects in my work. Adaptation to a changing, natural environment, is a connection I can relate to as being a part of the military life. Due to the constant changing of homes in the military, I learned to adapt to my changing environments.

Using the tradition of still-life paintings combined with the art of expressionism, is the style I use to communicate my subject matter to the viewer. My medium of choice is dominantly oil painting, it allows me to blend colors more easily due to having a lengthier drying period. I occasionally will integrate different materials in my works as well.

Most of the imagery in my work is recognizable, but I strive to show a deeper meaning behind them, also acknowledging different reactions, or questions, can arrive from viewing my works.
